About NordGen
The Nordic Genetic Resource Center (NordGen) is the common gene bank and knowledge center for genetic resources of the Nordic countries. The institution operates under the Nordic Council of Ministers and has the mission to conserve and promote the sustainable use of genetic resources for food and agriculture. Therefore, NordGen preserves the Nordic seed and potato collection, runs research projects and international collaborations, and is responsible for seed management in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. The headquarters is located in newly built facilities at Campus Alnarp, near Malmö and Lund.
About the position
NordGen is looking for an experienced and independent IT project assistant for a 1-year employment focused on administration, research, infrastructure, and information security. The position is anchored in a strategically important effort to strengthen NordGen's IT operations, data security, and preparedness in light of increased demands for cybersecurity, including the NIS2 directive and the CER regulation.
You will play a central role in planning and implementing a pre-analysis as well as in the practical work of further developing and optimizing NordGen's IT infrastructure – including optimizing storage solutions, improving IT support, and enhancing security and operations throughout the organization.
The position includes both strategic and analytical components as well as practical, operational work and requires close collaboration with management, employees, external suppliers, and Nordic/international partners.
Main responsibilities
You will be responsible for:

- Contributing to the development of strategic proposals for IT infrastructure, preparedness, and security that support the use of NordGen's collections.
- Enabling NordGen to both store and make available digital sequence information (DSI) related to our collections of plant genetic resources.
- Optimizing daily IT operations, including support, licensing agreements, access management, backup, and monitoring.
- Supporting the work on Nordic data sovereignty and secure storage solutions.
- Collaborating with external suppliers, research infrastructure, and Nordic partners.
- Producing documentation, recommendations, and decision-making materials for management and the board.
- Translating planning into concrete actions.
Qualifications
We expect you to:
- Have a relevant education in IT, information systems, computer science, or equivalent.
- Have solid experience in administrative and research-related IT, IT infrastructure, and systems operations.
- Have experience or knowledge of data migration and storage solutions.
- Have an understanding of information security, risk management, and preparedness planning.
- Preferably have knowledge of NIS2, CER, ISO 27001, or similar frameworks (not a requirement).
- Work in a structured, analytical, and independent manner.
- Have good collaboration skills and can communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Master English in both spoken and written form; knowledge of a Scandinavian language is an advantage.
- Be a citizen of a Nordic country.
We offer
- An exciting 1-year project position with significant societal importance.
- The opportunity to work at the intersection of IT operations, security, and strategic development.
- An international and Nordic working environment.
- A high degree of professional independence and influence.
- Flexible working conditions within the framework of NordGen's policies.
Employment conditions
The position is a fixed-term employment for 1 year with the possibility of extension. Salary and employment conditions are determined according to the applicable collective agreement and qualifications. The workplace is primarily at NordGen's headquarters in Alnarp, near Malmö and Lund.
The application deadline is February 9 at 23:59. Start as soon as possible. Only applications submitted through the Nordic Council of Ministers' application system will be processed.
